The rise of utility jackets in fashion's spotlight
As the buzz around workwear continues to gain momentum in the fashion world, the utility jacket stands out, demanding everyone’s attention and rightfully claiming its spotlight.
Carhartt emerges as a leader in this fashion movement, not just as a brand, but as a true emblem of workwear heritage. Although this brand’s influence extends far beyond recent seasons, as Highsnobiety points out in a recent article, in the past year Carhartt has seamlessly integrated itself into the wardrobes of the fashion-forward, earning recognition from the fashion and media platform as ‘the new luxury.’
The American label has inspired even luxury brands like Prada and Miu Miu‘s SS24 collections to reinterpret its iconic Detroit, Michigan and Arlington styles down to the smallest details. Moreover, at the most recent FW24 Menswear shows, industry titans including Louis Vuitton, Fendi, and, once again, Prada reaffirmed this trend by presenting their own versions of workwear-inspired coats, reinforcing the utility jacket’s status as an essential wardrobe piece.
Having observed the utility jacket trend for several seasons, I can no longer ignore the undeniable signs from the fashion world. With a growing selection available, I’ve decided to delve deeper into this style, including options borrowed from the men’s section, as you’ll get a wider selection, plus the oversized fit in men’s jackets is always a personal favourite.
A quick side note: despite the array of choices available, the classic Carhartt Detroit style remains my top pick.
